Our coaches have several years experience of working within school’s, the local community and within elite elements of the football coaching environment to bring together a blend and style of coaching that can support both children and adults of any age and of any ability, from toddlers through to high performing footballers or sportspeople.

The Astrella

The Astrella coaches constantly hold in-house education day’s to enable them to discuss and learn new methods in order to keep up with methods and improve the syllabus’ within all our programmes we coach. This ranges from Football coaching philosophies through to studying and developing our knowledge within all sports to really focus on challenging and progressing each person we coach, teach or mentor.

Jody Rivers

Our Director of Coaching, Jody Rivers, has been coaching since 2005 and in this time has coached players from grassroots and professional football club academies through to Premier League player’s. Jody has visited and studied the methods of several world class coaching programmes, from academy level through to the first team of FC Barcelona, Sporting Lisbon, Athletic Bilbao, Southampton FC and the Liverpool FC International Academy in Michigan, USA.

This mix and blend of different styles and philosophies gives Astrella and the coaches a unique and attention to detail syllabus within both our academy, Astrella Academy of Football and within our community based programmes through Astrella Primary Stars and Astrella Future Stars.

During his time spent at Athletic Bilbao, Jody built a trust with the coaches so strong he became the only ever non-Basque coach to lead a session within the academy when he led an U13 session with the players. Jody is quoted by Mauricio Pochettino in Guillem Balague’s book “Brave New World” and has seen and discussed sessions led by Pep Guardiola, Mikel Arteta, Claude Puel, Eddie Howe and Pochettino himself.
